Our premises
The training /teaching content of this website is built on two premises:
1. That we cannot teach people to be ethical. We cannot even persuade them. But we believe that most people are moral; and that they wish to work within an ethical environment.
Research also shows private companies with a high degree of ethical commitment are more profitable. This finding does provide a pragmatic reason for investing in an ethics development program.
2. That the most effective way to build an ethical environment is by encouraging people who wish to speak out against wrongdoing in the organisations within which they work. This encouragement extends to providing them the protection from retaliation and in ensuring that their speaking up results in action. The research that shows that people working for an organisation who speak out are the most effective way to identify and correct wrongdoing is available here.
We can then teach people in organisations the techniques and approaches by which they can build a more ethical environment.
